Brice W. Harris was named Chancellor Emeritus of the California Community Colleges by the system's Board of Governors upon his retirement in April 2016. He was selected to lead the largest system of higher education in the nation in 2012, after serving sixteen years as Chancellor of the Los Rios Community College District, five years as president of Fresno City College, and nearly two decades as a faculty member and vice chancellor in the Kansas City, Missouri community college system.
He spent his 45-year career working to improve student success and access in American community colleges.
Selected experience
- Led implementation of the nationally acclaimed Student Success Initiative as California Community Colleges Chancellor
- Piloted the community college bachelor's degree in California and enhanced career technical education across the system
- At Los Rios, oversaw establishment of the district's fourth college, Folsom Lake, and developed five additional educational centers in underserved areas, nearly doubling district enrollment during his tenure
- Member of the board of the California Chamber of Commerce
- Chaired the Sacramento Area Commerce and Trade Organization and the Northern California World Trade Center
- First educator to serve as president of the Sacramento Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce
