Larry Roper is a Professor in the School of Language, Culture and Society and Coordinator of the Social Justice Studies Program at Oregon State University. Larry also currently serves as Program Lead for the College Student Services Administration program, which prepares students at the Masters level to work in the student services field. Previously he served Oregon State University as Vice Provost for Student Affairs from 1995-2014. He also served for 18 months as Interim Dean of the College of Liberal Arts at OSU. He has held numerous positions in student affairs, including Director of Housing; Associate Dean of Students; Coordinator of Multicultural Affairs; and Vice President for Student Affairs/Dean of Students. Larry currently serves as a Commissioner with the State of Oregon’s Higher Education Coordinating Commission and as a Board of trustee member for Heidelberg University. He served a 6-year term as a Commissioner with the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. Larry has extensive experience with institutional accreditation and program review.
In his Vice Provost for Student Affairs role, Larry supervised the following units: Admission, Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships, Office of the Registrar, and Pre-College Programs), University Counseling and Psychological Services, Student Health Services, Memorial Union and Educational Activities (Greek Life, Student Leadership and Involvement), Recreational Sports, University Housing and Dining Services, Intercultural Student Services, and Office of the Dean of Student Life (Career Services, Disability Access Services, Student Conduct and Community Standards, and New Student Programs and Family Outreach). Larry has degrees from Heidelberg University (A.B., History), Bowling Green State University, M.A., College Student Personnel, and the University of Maryland, Ph.D., College Student Personnel Administration.
