In his 33 year career as a mathematics instructor at Mission College, located in the heart of Silicon Valley, Ian Walton has focused on the successful interaction of educational policy changes and their effective implementation by generating the enthusiastic participation of faculty. This is a recipe for involving the greatest number of people in meaningful changes that result in increased student success Ian developed this experience as a faculty leader who has experienced all roles – department chair, division chair, academic senate president and collective bargaining negotiator - and therefore can help any visiting team to communicate authentically with the faculty. But he can also talk effectively to administrators and trustees and help bridge any gaps or misunderstandings. This experience comes from his work as a statewide faculty leader in California where served as President of the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges.
He also brings a wealth of experience from accreditation visiting teams in a wide variety of settings as diverse as Deep Springs College and Guam Community College and from assorted national projects on basic skills and Common Core Standards.
