Dr. Joy McCaslin has 35 years of experience in the California Community College system. After holding teaching positions and various student services assignments, she was appointed Vice President of Student Services at Pierce College in 1996. She provided leadership and supervision of a comprehensive student services program, with special emphasis on underrepresented students, high school relations, and student success. Dr. McCaslin served as Interim President at Pierce College for the 2009-2010 year, and again in 2011. She was responsible for providing administrative leadership of this large college serving 23,000 students and overseeing the development of major new campus facilities.
Dr. McCaslin earned her doctorate from UCLA in Educational Psychology, focusing on cognitive theories of learning. She received her Master of Arts degree in Special Education from the University of California, Riverside, and her bachelor’s degree in Anthropology from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
